OBJECTIVE
“swasthasya swastha rakshanam prayojanam chasya”
“athurasya vicar prasamanam”.
As per Charaka Samhitha Sutra Sthana 30/26, Ayurveda has two main objectives, “Preserving the health (Swasthya) of a healthy person, and to “cure the person who is sick or diseased, and help him to stay healthy”.
To accomplish this objective, we need to understand the basis of Human Life and its existence. This knowledge is explained in great detail in Ayurveda. AYUR/AYUS means SPAN OF LIFE, VEDA means KNOWLEDGE. The knowledge that is required to remain healthy throughout “ONE’S LIFE” is called AYURVEDA.
As per Ayurveda, Charaka Samhitha Sutra Sthana 26/10,
“IHA HI DRAVYAM PANCHA MAHAA BHOOTAATMAKAM”
The entire universe including living and nonliving objects is made up of “Panchamahabhutas”, Akasha(space), Vaayu (air), Prithvi (earth), Jala (water) and Agni (fire). These panchamahabhutas are the five fundamental elements responsible for creation of universe including human beings.
They evolve from the “UNION of TEJAS” (Sattva Dominant) and BHUTADI (Tamas Dominant) Ahankara.
PROPERTIES OF PANCHAMAHABHUTAS
Pancha Tanmatras or microelements are shabdha, sparsha, rupa, rasa, and gandha which become the specific qualities of Panchamahabhutas, akasha, vayu, agni, jala, and prithvi in that order.
Each Mahabhuta has inherent functions related to the sense Organs
Akasha

Vayu

Agni

Jala

The Mahabhuta provide abode for the corresponding sense organs to perform their sensory functions (Charaka Samhitha Sutra Sthana 8/14). These sense organs are tools to know Panchabhautik matter in the universe.

TREATMENT METHODOLOGY
According to WHO (World Health Organization) “HEALTH IS A STATE OF COMPLETE PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SOCIAL WELLBEING”, and not “MERELY ABSENCE OF DISEASE”.
This state of “ABSOLUTE HEALTH” can be achieved only through a “HOLISTIC APPROACH”, which includes balancing the “PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, SOCIAL AND SPIRITUAL WELLBEING OF AN INDIVIDUAL”.
AAYUSHYA VARDHANA adopts an “INTEGRATED APPROACH TO HEALTH THROUGH A COMBINATION OF practices which address all the necessary aspects to maintain a balance in the SHARIRA (BODY), SENSES (INDRIYA), PSYCHE (MANAS), CONSCIOUSNESS (CHETANA), AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
It is said, “IF WE ARE COMPATIBLE WITH OUR INTERNAL NATURE, WE WILL BE AT THE BEST OF OUR HEALTH.”
This process of “CONNECTING OURSELVES TO THE MICRONATURE EMBEDDED WITHIN US”, helps us to identify the nature of our physical body, its requirements, our tendencies, our habits and paves way for better understanding and correcting ourself.
