Sahaja Pranayama is natural deep breathing — a simple practice anyone can do to rejuvenate body and mind.
How to practise
- Sit comfortably on a chair or floor mat, in any position you prefer.
- Stay comfortable throughout.
- Keep your back as straight as possible.
- Exhale completely, emptying whatever air is in the lungs. Then inhale deeply through both nostrils.
- Remain natural; do not strain.
- Exhale fully again.
- Continue the cycle — inhale deeply and completely, then exhale completely.
- Repeat for 3 to 5 minutes.
What happens during deep breathing
As you breathe deeply, the lungs fill and oxygen-rich blood circulates throughout the body, rejuvenating the cells. Every cell begins to vibrate with energy and is naturally rejuvenated.
Brain function improves the same way: oxygen-rich blood activates the brain cells, and the depression of mind usually caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain disappears. Deep breathing helps counter depression, dullness and boredom — much like watering a wilting plant, which blooms soon after.
